The tour starts off from Keszthely. We departed from the Bordás Vince promenade, near the railway station. The promenade itself is part of the Balaton bike road. We leave Keszthely in the direction of Alsópáhok, a settlement we can reach after 8 km of bicycling. From here we continue toward Sármellék, and passing through it we soon arrive at Zalavár.

Here we turn to the right and continue toward Újszabár, all the way to the shores of the lake little Balaton (Kis-Balaton). Here we can visit historical memorial sites, including the basilica of Récéskút, the ruins of the Salzburg abbey, as well as the Cyrill & Method memorial column. You can also visit the little Balaton lake house of nature, which present the flora & fauna of the area.

After this little sightseeing, we continue in the direction of Újszabár, on public road. Next we pass through Zalaszabár, Nagyrada, Garanbonc, and finally reach Zalakaros. Our next destination is Zalakomárom, at which point we ae the farthest from Keszthely, where we started from. We turn left of the main street and continue toward Zalavár.

About half way to Balatonmagyaród we have the possibility to visit the buffalo reserve, which is located to the right. If time allows, it is worth wile to pay a visit here. The place is easy to find thanks to the road signs. 

After Balatonmagyaród lies the lake little Balaton, to the left. It’s worth to visit here the island Kányavári and its bridge. Afterward we continue our tour toward Zalavár, and soon we arrive at a sluice / lock, which controls the flowing of the river Zala into lake Balaton. Zalavár is located at a 4 km distance from here, and the place already looks familiar. From here we continue on the already well known route in the direction of Keszthely, which is at an 18 km distance.
